UPS announced this afternoon that it has reached a tentative agreement with the Teamsters Union for a new contract to replace the current one expiring on July 31. This is great news and welcome relief for hospitals and organizations nationally that have been implementing contingency plans for a strike that was scheduled to begin on August 1.
The tentative agreement includes increased wages for both full and part-time workers; a major sticking point in the negotiations. The agreement is still subject to formal approval from the nearly 340,000 UPS workers before the threat of a strike is officially lifted. It is estimated that the vote could take up to three weeks, possibly longer. For now, the strike is on hold until voting is complete.
