Trade-ins can be one of the most expensive decisions hospitals make about equipment. Do you ever suspect you are getting less than fair value for equipment you are trading-in? If so, you are not alone and more often than not, you are probably correct.
Don’t lose value you don’t need to. Know the value of equipment you are considering trading-in before making a decision. If the trade-in offer is poor, evaluate alternatives that could include negotiating a higher offer, redeploying equipment internally, reselling or even – for some systems – keeping them for the value of the parts (which can sometimes be worth more than the complete system).
Take the time to know what your equipment is worth before trading it in. Taking this step will help you avoid the potentially most expensive decision, and instead help you make the smartest, least expensive decision for your hospital.
